My second lumbar puncture!

Day 4. Still great! still fun. still friendly working environment. alhamdulillah =) Everyday is consultant's ward round day, which means bullets of questions..=P i gotta be sincere. I seriously could not remember what acute renal course is, why do we give calcium resonium. But i do remember this one. What does nauseous mean to you Anna? this is Dr.R's question this morning!

Gambar selingan- Melly bermata kumbang, dan saya yg rindu Melly hhihihi

I was like..(do you want all the mechanism of nausea triggering zone in the brain or is this a trick question?) it did turn out to be a trick question. Lucky me, i did not attempt to give him all that chemical triggering zone yada yada yada. When you say, "Mrs. X quite nauseous today",meaning Mrs. X making you feel nauseous. When Mrs. X says " Im a bit nauseous today" meaning Mrs. X feels nauseous today. That one glued in my brain. Never say that ever again! especially in front of Dr. R!

I seldom talk about medicine. anything to do with working. So when i write a lil bit about it, now that means im starting to enjoy it a bit. SO FAR. now that is good! And today, I did my second lumbar puncture! My first one was in Dunedin. when i was there doing my elective on geriatrics. It was absolutely an experience. I did lumbar puncture ( needle in your back, thru the space between your spine, to take a little fluid called CSF fluid) on 88-year-old woman with undiagnosed condition. It was quite a challenge. I am impressed with Mrs. K (bukan nama sebenar) who struggled to lie still for me and eventhough it was a hard one, Mrs. K still say her favourite phrase " you gotta do what you gotta do, love"

yes i gotta do what i gotta do =) =)

p.s: Anna mahu makan sate. Sate ayam. please =P

When healthy eating becomes the hardest thing to do!

My second day in general medicine ward. Did Arterial Blood Gas (needle put in your blood vessel in wrist to measure pH,oxygen and carbon dioxide level in your blood) today on a very old patient. My team so far so good. Ethusiastically teaching me about heart disease, stroke and kidney failure (by firing up zillion questions of course!). Having lunch with 3 top consultants are so intimidating.i feel like a mice. Come to think of it, wah bestnya dah berjaya jadi consultants..ceriaa jeee sentiasa. If i were to be a consultant nnt2, insyaallah, i wanna be the one yg approachable, happy and rileks.haha.boley ke Anna. Insyaallah Insyaallah =)
Almost 90% of my patients are stroke patients.
More than setengah, diabetes+history of smoking+hypertension+high cholesterole.
Stroke as young as 55years old. Jauhkanla.

When i see this everyday in front of my eyes.i would think of my gosh, what are we doing to our body? ( this might sound silly to certain people) but this is true. We just munch all the chips without thinking. Putting a lot of coconut cream in our food. Fry everything with tons of oil. In less than 30 or 40 years, on bed, cant move, cant talk sometimes cant think. a lot of time cant sleep.

Its just too hard to eat healthy food. Even for myself. I binge a lot of carbs. Cook ayam goreng and every other goreng stuff. But it'll become harder the later we try, right Anna. Okay sikit sikit lama lama jadi bukit. Lets try eating healthy everyone, and do some walking (hmm pegi hospital naik bukit melawan angin wellington, kire okay la tu kan hhehe). And yeah, see how we're doing in few weeks~~ =)
p.s: first time entry sungguh ilmiah. Working in the medical ward does make me thinking!

How much is too much?

My first day of general medicine this year. Ward 17. Last night i was not very keen. Back to wearing stetoscope again..sigh~~ Today i was half keen. Did a neurosensory exam to a 76-year-old lady with query cerebellar stroke. Back to geriatric again. No wonder my "keen-ness" got better =P. Back to saying a loud hello and writing on piece of paper just to ask "how are you". Because half of my patients are deaf. =) =)

Members in my team are all very friendly (i hope this goes on forever!) The consultants love coffee break. Today i had 3. I dont usually drink coffee. In fact, Mel will cubit2 me if i drink coffee (my migraine cured by itself i assume). Just after 4, i went home. Now here i am. Writing. Thinking of making nasik ayam for dinner but still got plenty of spaghetti. Membazir membazir. Habiskan spaghetti dulu la =)

This is Jenny. She is a very sweet little gal. Im sure her smile wins so many hearts!hihi

I am supposed to be interested in working especially in the ward. But i dont need to. I want to. and i will be. Some people can become crazy about working. Some people choose to be just sort-of "in it" haha. How much is too much? How little is too little? Doctors need to have a life. They do have life outside hospital. Unless they choose not to.

Anna Banana, Yasmeen si bunga, Ajen si macho, Nuha Nusaibah~~

I am going to miss this life as a student. When i do not have to think too much..Enjoying my day, playing SIMS 2 with Nuha in Zen's room. How fantastic!

p.s: Zen, Nuha.. huhu nnt cane la aku tanpa SIMS
